A Tight Fit

A couple months ago my washing machine broke and so we went shopping for a new one.  I wanted to keep the washer and dryer matching so we decided to buy both.  We found a good deal and were told if we bought an additional appliance we could get 15% more off our purchases.  We had planned on replacing our fridge (which had a broken handle, 2 broken crisper drawers, and the water dispenser no longer worked) in the New Year so we thought we'd go ahead and buy it now.

The fridge arrived at the store and Jason with the help of one of our ministering brothers, who has a truck, went and got it.  Getting it into the house was a huge ordeal.  It barely fit through our front door even with most of the packaging removed.  Jason and Ashton had quite the time.

Got our old fridge moved out into the garage and went to move the new fridge into place.  It was TOO BIG!!  Jason had measured from the cupboards not noticing the countertop stuck out over the cupboards. Left the fridge in the middle of the kitchen while he was on a business trip for a week, and on his return he got the area tarped and then got to work grinding down the countertop.  It was a tedious job.

It was a very tight fit! But she's in!!

Loving our new fridge!

Year End Activities

Before school was out for the year the kids were busy with extra curricular activities.  Bowen participated in the school play again this year.  It was a busy time with auditions last November and rehearsals starting in January and continuing until the 3 final performances in April.  The play was called Peter and the Starcatcher (a Peter Pan origin story).  Bowen had quite a big role as a sea captain in the 1st half of the play and then a minor role in the second half.  His death scene was amazing.  He is becoming quite a good actor.

Cadence played timbit soccer.  She did well and had lots of fun.  I wasn't able to go to many games with my teaching schedule but she enjoyed having daddy and her brothers come watch.

The boys had their final band concerts.  I was so amazed at how well they played.  Bowen's Grade 6/7 band had competed in a competition a couple weeks earlier against 40 other bands and they won first place. It was a great concert.  Both the boys also spoke.  Bowen introduced a number that his friend Ben had composed.  I was so impressed how good the piece was.  Ashton was asked to write a speech to thank the band teacher.  He wrote the speech himself and it was funny, witty and heart-warming.  I was very proud of both of my boys.  Bowen also won the "Most Improved" award for his class.

I didn't record any of Ben's piece, but here is a clip from the concert.

First School Field Trip

Before the end of school, Cadence went on one field trip - to THE ZOO!

She was very excited.  I wasn't able to volunteer but the mom assigned to watch her was kind enough to send me some photos.

So excited to ride the bus.
See how she is a foot taller than some of the other kids.  I seriously wondered if I had signed her up for the wrong class at first.

They stopped for lunch and then were playing at the playground.  It was while they were at the playground I got a call from the mom and Cadence's teacher to tell me she wasn't feeling well.  Maybe overheated and too much running around.  So I headed to the zoo to pick her up.

She slept all the way home and then when I went to get her out of the truck she says to me "I feel better now".  Good grief.  She was a little disappointed that she had missed seeing the tigers but had had a great time while she was there.  We'll have to head back as a family this summer to see the rest.

Mother's Day Tea - 2019 Edition

In May my absolutely favorite day at preschool happened - The Mother's Day Tea.  I look forward to this special day all year.  I remember going with my sweet little boys and how happy they were to have me at school with them.  I was very excited to share the experience with Cadence.

We got ourselves ready, arriving very early so we could get a parking spot.  Even finished getting dolled up by applying lipstick in the truck.

The kids had prepared a little song for us - "A You're Adorable".  I took a video but it isn't letting me upload it for some reason.  She did such a great job, she is going to sing it at my recital this year.

Then we had a little luncheon.  Yummy sandwiches, fruit, and lots of goodies.

They gave us the cutest little gifts.  A plant and a jewelery holder in the shape of her hand.  So cute!

It was a special day.  Sure love that girl of mine!

Easter and Cousin Fun

We started our Easter weekend with a visit from the Hagues.  The kids were so excited to have their cousins visit.  The boys spent a great deal of time, of course, playing video games so I organized a few things for the girls to do.

We decorated easter eggs.  The boys did get in on this activity as well.

Later in the afternoon, the girls (and Ashton) decorated sugar cookies.  I don't know how they managed to eat them with so much icing.

It was great to spend the day with family.  I only wish we lived closer so we could do it more often.  The next morning the kids woke early to find their Easter baskets.

After church we had a delicious ham dinner.  I made a ham on the bone this year - so worth it!

So fun to have holiday traditions.  Happy Easter!

First Friend Party

Cadence was very excited to have a birthday party with friends this year.  She invited all the girls from her preschool class.  6 girls were invited and 4 were able to come.  She wanted a unicorn theme, of course.
Cadence in this year's birthday dress - it has a unicorn on it!
At 1 p.m. the girls started arriving.  They did some colouring while we waited for everyone to arrive. Then they played a few games.  I had to leave all the arranging to Jason as I had planned on getting everything ready on Friday.  He took right over, got everything ready and took care of the party.  He banished me to the couch to observe and take pictures.

Then it was time to open presents.  Cadence was thrilled with everything she received.

Daddy doesn't know how Confetti Little Pony presents work - hahaha - covered in confetti!

I had planned on making these adorable little unicorn cupcakes I had seen on pinterest on Friday but since I was in the hospital Jason bought the cutest rainbow cake and cotton candy icecream.  Cadence was thrilled!

After snacks and cake the girls made bead necklaces with unicorn charms.  They had a great time and it was nice to have a quiet activity before they headed home.

Happy Birthday sweet girl!  We sure love you.
